Overweight since childhood,I spent most of my 30's tipping the scales around 250lbs. At age 41 I took charge of feeding myself by preparing all of my own meals, no more fast foods! I created a way to use my love of cooking, food, and eating to permanently lose over 100lbs. During this time I discovered kettlebells and my own style of training The Kettlebell Swing, bringing out my inner athlete and erasing all signs of former lifelong obesity. It's never too late, YOU CAN DO IT!

Mission Accomplished...well, one mission at least!
Really this is just a quick blog post with none of the messy details! But here is a phrase that will, pretty much, describe the competition this weekend was not exactly a walk in the park!
"In Jiu Jitsu there's no losing...you either win, or you learn!"
Yes, I got the number I needed to earn my Level 1 ranking (the highest level before moving on to a heavier bell). Were they what I wanted? No. Did I get what I wanted? Yes.
12kg 10 min Jerk
122 total reps
61 pts
12kg 10 min Snatch
197 total reps (90 R/107 L)
99 pts
159 1/2 total points earned
156 points needed
I was hoping to get over 165 points and need only 150....the rest of the story w/video and gory details coming! To be honest, it's hard/painful for me to watch the video myself. Not painful because I was suffering, painful because I knew I could have done so much better. Unlike the phrase at the top of this post, I did win something....but I learned more!
ps, I'm sure Mark and John would say that I'm being dramatic, and at the end of the day I guess I am. No disrespect to the 12kg, but there is plenty more real drama headed my way now that I get to tackle the 16kg!
When do we start training for August? I am stoked!
ReplyDeleteSo awesome! I hope to someday try GS competition. Good work!!
ReplyDeletewhat an awesome performance Tracy
ReplyDeletenever doubted the outcome!
So many others can only dream about what you've accomplished....appreciate the steps!
ReplyDeleteCongrats....can't wait till all the "messy" details come out!
Andrea,
ReplyDeleteI think we are going to have to have a "pow wow" and figure out who's in and who's not! That way I can make a plan and map out the training for the next 3 1/2 months.
Of course that means you will have to do some work on your own, lots of it!
Mike,
ReplyDeleteThanks! Are you waiting for finish SFG Cert?
S and G,
ReplyDeleteRarely are we in charge of the details...but sometimes the outcome is all that matters! Considering this was really only my first real meet I can't complain at all!
Things should get a whole lot more exciting from here on out!
Diana,
ReplyDeleteI know....and I did learn a super big lesson for sure! One that will only make me stronger and more focused on doing the foundational work that cannot be skipped over! You can never rely on a little bit of training and a lot of luck one time!
Not to say I only did a little bit of training, only that two months of training for my first real meet is not exactly putting in the mileage! My odometer start at zero again! And I'm in it for the long haul!
Thanks friend.
Congrats!!! That is such a great accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteWell done. Great modeling of a good attitude in the face of disappointment.
ReplyDeleteYou're always the hardest on yourself, but we still think you're fabulous! Can't wait to see the video.
ReplyDeleteSeeing as I tried the 12k half snatch on Thursday and barely survived at 3 minutes each side, I'd say you're still a g!@#$mn bad ass!
Chrystad,
ReplyDeleteThanks! And yep, it's pretty cool now that Im done whining!
mteague,
ReplyDeleteI think a good attitude comes with taking responsibility for the outcome.
I'm not used to formal competition and the demands it makes. After reflection, the demands are part of what I like about it!
Maribel,
ReplyDeleteTalk about being hard on yourself! Did you forget about the workout we did for 40 minutes prior to that? Um, yes! We moved around a crazy amount if weight!
The fact that you could go 3 minutes with the 12kg the first time out is really really good!
And the video...hmnn....
You're AMAZING and I can't wait to meet you in August! I can definitely relate to your journey and admire your passion and tenacity for training. You rock! :)
ReplyDeleteH of Cyn,
ReplyDeleteI'll get to meet you in August? Sa-weet! I hope to have a handful of "my girls" there too! August is my birthday month, and this year it numero five-zero! Yep, 50! Big celebrations!
