Overweight since childhood,I spent most of my 30's tipping the scales around 250lbs. At age 41 I took charge of feeding myself by preparing all of my own meals, no more fast foods! I created a way to use my love of cooking, food, and eating to permanently lose over 100lbs. During this time I discovered kettlebells and my own style of training The Kettlebell Swing, bringing out my inner athlete and erasing all signs of former lifelong obesity. It's never too late, YOU CAN DO IT!

For Women First Magazine Debut
Here's what the cover looks like.... Perfect timing as I get ready to write about more pressure cooking!
I'm thinking I may do some video PC blogposts, instead of just pictures...maybe a prelude to a PC DVD! Thanks for the compliment, but maybe you should share your favorite PC recipes!
I own three PC's now after giving my 6 qt to my son last year, leaving me with two, Mark bought me a 10qt this past Xmas. So I own a 4 qt, 8 qt and 10 qt.
the 6 qt was my fisrt one and one that served me well on it's own for many months, if not a year once I started using it regularly. But personally the 6 qt is my least favorite size. I could easily add a 12qt to my collection!
It's not unusual for me to have at least 2 of them going at once!
I got a PC just a couple of months ago and you were right...what a great piece of equipment. Especially for a busy person like me that has to feed a family.
If I HAD to cook large quantities of foods for meals, the pressure is the way to go!
I've been talking and writing about it for years now, but it's time to take it to another level. When I read other PC enthusists blogs and recipes I know I have enough of a different approach to have my own voice in the PC world. besides I've got my be friend, ex Chef Fawn, as a consultant!
Large quantities is right! Sunday I cooked a batch of garbanzo beans (for soup and hummus), a batch of black beans, poached a whole chicken and made veggie-heavy minestrone (which I used half the garbanzo's for) all in about 2 1/2 or 3 hours! In that time all I would have accomplished was the beans. I think I see another PC in my future.
Congratulations Tracy! I bought the magazine to read on the way to UK -- I also need some lessons on how to use a pressure cooker--Meg et al. can come to my house for the cooking lesson .........
Thanks for the article Tracy. I just got my PC in the mail today, now to try it out! I am embracing the kettlebell as I have a goal to lose 165 pounds. Love your blog and I am learning so much. Keep it coming! Thanks.
Deepika, you know how to pressure cooker already! Make a list of some of the things you want to cook and we'll knock 'em out on a weekend afternoon...your place, of course!
please ask any questions about either subject anytime. I think I gave out some good advice on how to start pressure cooking on this blog a couple of years ago...maybe Nov-Dec 2008 (or 09...yikes time flys!) and, thank you for your comment
Can't wait for your post about poaching chicken breast in the PC. I love my PC and I know you always have tried and true yummy, healthy recipes!
ReplyDeleteI've loved my PC for around 20 years! I'm on my second one and thinking about buying another. Do you use the brand featured in the article?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being featured in a magazine!!
ReplyDeleteI love my crock pot, and I love cooking, but I know nothing about PC's. I will have to look into it!
Congrat Mrs Reifkind =)

Nadine,
ReplyDeletethe biggest difference between crock and PC is time, of course. Crock is slow all day, and PC is 1/3 the time of traditional cooking.
Also you can't "brown" in a crock, unless you have one of the new ones manufactured recently and are very expensive....not that a PC isn't expensive!
thanks joe
ReplyDeleteFawn,
ReplyDeletefunny how this article would have never happened without you! Thanks!
