I was in shock, or disbelief, when I checked my facebook messages about being "tagged" on a Dragon Door TV episode....
....and "Female Comrade of the Year is Tracy Reifkind".... what? Are my contacts dirty? What am I reading? I can't comment until I'm sure this says what I think it says! What does this say?
I had to go to DD TV to watch, and make sure, I had it right! There I am, "Female Comrade of the Year". I was elated to say the least! But, before I get into all of that I want to also congratulate Mark Toomey for being honored as my other half, "Male Comrade of the Year". To be in his company is a double compliment.
OK, back to me!
I was on cloud nine! I felt that being recognized by the people who know me was so much more meaningful than to have my picture and story read by completely anonymous readers of a best selling book....thank goodness I don't have to chose. I've got it all!
2011 is going to be a year of fun, fun, fun! I started out the day with a freakin' fun workout/challenge of a 10 minute 1 hand switch, snatch test with my favorite people....my students, and now? Well, let's just say...I've got plans to play up this title of "Lady Comrade of the Year"...mark my words. No one will have as much fun as me this next year. Stay tuned...
Thank you to all, and anyone, that had anything to do with this honor. I am so thankful for where I started, all 250+lbs of me, to where I am now. Miracles do happen.
I will not sink into the background, nor should you, nor should anyone.
PS Hey Amanda...where can I get a bustier like yours?
Congrats! Very well deserved. How are you going to top this one for 2011????
ReplyDeleteMeg,
ReplyDeleteI don't need to top it...I'm already at the top! No plans for stepping down!
Meg
ReplyDeleteshe's just kidding. she will top this no problem in 2011.This is just the beginning.
Meg
ReplyDeleteps great job today getting your 50k snatches in record time!
Once again Congratulations Tracy! You deserve this honor! All the best and continued success in 2011!
ReplyDeleteYou will look fabulous in that bustier! Congrats on LC!

ReplyDeleteCongrats! You inspire so many of us.
ReplyDeleteAnd Meg? Wow. I think I'm going to keep track of my numbers this year - amazing.
Congratulations! You have inspired me so much, can't wait to see what 2011 brings!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mark, you will somehow figure out how to top this....and it will definitely mean pain for your students and us out here who do these workouts with you!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to it!
Did you really NOT know this news of Comrade of the Year before the DD video came out???
Congrats Ma'am! Well Deserved is right, you always give 110% and you help alot of people as well.
ReplyDeleteHi Tracy:
ReplyDeleteI read your story in the 4 Hour Body and have been throughly inspired by your transformation! I decided to pick up the kettlebell as well, and man! Its a lot tougher than it looks, but its easy to do at home and convenient.
I decided to start with 10 reps (I have a 20 lb kettlebell) to see how many swings I could do so that I would have a starting point. I downloaded a free interval timer from the web, and set 20 seconds to do 10 swings, with 20 seconds rest. It seemed pretty easy until I got to about the 4th round, and it started to get hard! I was sweating like a pig by the end of the 5th round. I was able to do the 100 swings at that pace in 6:20. I thought I was going to pass out! (LOL) I purchased your DVD, but it was a bit overwhelming for me since I just started, but I got one thing from it: Practice makes perfect..keep swinging and the great form and more reps will come.
I just would like to ask a question about how often I should do this workout. I have 120 lbs to lose, I'm 37, and I'm somewhat active. I play on a USTA adult tennis league 3-4 times per week, so my body responds well to exercise (but as Tim Ferris said, recreation is not exercise!) That 6 minutes of work almost felt like I played a whole set of singles! In your opinion, do you think that 3 times a week will be beneficial, or will that be too much? I figure if I start with that, then after a while, I can increase to two 6 minute intervals of 100 swings, and so on. I would really appreciate your opinion on that.
I want to let you know that you have inspired me to get off my butt and go after the better body that I deserve. I had become comfortable with being fat because I had had achieved my dream of playing tennis, and being able to do it well. I have put a lot of time and effort into my game, and I have gone from someone who was underestimated because of my size, to someone who is now well respected as a player and have become one of the most sought after players at my level (3.5). But recently, I was put on high blood pressure medication. I'm 5'8 and 269 lbs, and playing tennis doesn't challenge my body enough to get this weight off because of my AWFUL eating habits. I started following the Slow Carb Diet (aka No Options Diet) recommended by Tim Ferris. I've lost 6 lbs this past week, with no exercise, so I am hoping that adding the kettlebell to my life will help bring me even more weight loss results fast. I don't want to be on this medication! I am grateful for it right now because it is helping keep my body going under this tremendous strain this weight is putting on it. But this is my last shot..I have to do something now!
Again, thank you Tracy for sharing your story, as it has given me so much hope, and motivation to try once more! Wishing you and your family continued success in 2011!
Sincerely,
KC
It doesn't even come as a surprise to me Tracy. Seeing you in the flesh and watching how much you work is shocking, surprising, inspiring, motivating...I could go on but I'm sure you get the picture.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!

ReplyDeleteI'm getting more and more excited about our April project! Thanks, again, and again, for your support and belief in me.
Leslie,
ReplyDeleteMark would never let me wear something like that in public...so I'll have to look great in it for him in private!

ReplyDeleteI've had a great 5 years! Nice to be recognized for one though, lol!
Sybil,
ReplyDeletekeeping track is part of the process! When the snatch challenge began I petered out half way!
Good luck, oh, and when my high volume snatch DVD comes out (fingers crossed sometime this year) that will help you get those numbers in no time!
